Terrorism a common enemy, Sharif assures Kabul

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa have called terrorism a common enemy and a threat to peace in the region.

While denouncing the terrorist attack on a military base near the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif rising, Sharif and Bajwa characterized the high-casualty incident as a horrific assault.

Sharif said in a statement from his office the government and people of Pakistan stood in solidarity with their Afghan brethren in this hour of grief. “We strongly condemn this barbaric act of terrorism.

“Our heart goes out to the victims of this terrorist attack. We express our heartfelt condolences with the bereaved families and pray for speedy recovery of the injured. Terrorism is a common enemy and a threat to peace in the region,” he added.

Separately, Gen. Bajwa also expressed solidarity with the Afghan security forces and the resilient Afghan nation. “Terrorists are our common enemy and we shall defeat them,” the Inter-Services Public Relations quoted him as saying.

In a statement, the Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the Afghan government as well as the international community in the fight against the scourge of terrorism.
