WCO secretary-general assures Afghanistan of support

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Monday stressed the need for modernising Afghanistaninfo-icon customs, building its capacity and regional connectivity.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said Ghani made the remarks at a meeting with Worldinfo-icon Customs Organisation (WCO) Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya in the morning.

“The president stressed called for modernising the country’s customs, improving its capacity, regional connectivity, simplifying custom procedures and investment in human resources,” the statement said.

The two leaders also conferred on Afghanistan signed the Arusha Convention in a significant move toward good governance and modernisation of customs.

WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya assured Afghanistan of cooperation from his organisation. The Arusha Convention was signed at a conference on Good Governance and Customs Coordination Council in Tanzania in 1993.
