CHARIKARinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Hundreds of students, who previously attended classes under tents, would benefit from a newly-constructed building for a school that was inaugurated in central Parwan province on Saturday.

Funded by the US Provincial Reconstructioninfo-icon Team (PRTinfo-icon), the school building in Astama area of Shinwari district, was completed at a cost $240,000 (11,577,600 afghanis) in eight months, the district chief.

Saifullah Baidar told Pajhwok Afghan News the three-storey building, having 16 classrooms and five administrative rooms, could accommodate 700 students.

In the past, hot weather prevented students from attending their classes and they would stay at home, but the problem has now been resolved, said Mohammad Naseem, a ninth grader.

Of the 30 schools in the district, only 10 have proper building. Work on 10 other buildings is underway, with the rest lacking buildings, officials say.

Meanwhile, the Turkish government donated new equipment to female vocational high school in northern Samangan province.

The equipment included 32 sewing and embroidery machines, 32 chairs and tables, 10 carpet-weaving machines, 6,400 metres of cloth, 2,400 kilograms of carpet thread and other tools, said schoolteacher, Sahila Rahimi.

As many as 249 girl students are studying at the school, which has been operating for the last four years.
