Firewood, gas rates go up in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The prices of firewood and liquefied gas went up while the rates of gold dipped during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Mohammad Sharif, a retailer in the Taimani neighbourhood of the capital, said the rate of one kg of gas jumped from 65 to 70afs. The commodity price shoots up with the arrival of winter.

Khan Mohammad, a firewood seller in Kabul, said the rate of per 560 kg of firewood rose by 200afs to 7,200afs from last week’s 7,000afs. He feared further increase in the prices of firewood.

Fuel prices remained unchanged. Abdul Saboor, owner of a pump station in Wazirabad area, said a litre of petrol accounted for 61afs and diesel for 58afs -- same as the last week.  

Fazel Rahman, the Food Traders Association head, said the rate of a 49-kg bag of flour increased from 1,270afs to 1,300afs.  Due to a shortage of flour in Pakistaninfo-icon and the resultant fall in imports, the price went up in Afghanistaninfo-icon, he added.

A 40-kg bag of sugar cost 1,700afs, a 24-kg bag of rice 18, 00afs, a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee 360afs, a kg of Vietnamese green tea 180afs and the same quantity of African black tea 210afs.

But retailer in the Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, Khan Ali, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,400afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 2,000afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 2,200afs, a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 440afs and green tea for 260afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller, said the price of Arabian gold fell from 2,100 to 2,000afs and that of the Iranian variety from 1,750 to 1,600afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.90afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 561afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 57.80afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 561afs.
