GARDIZ (Pajhwok): Six educationinfo-icon officers of southeastern Paktia province have been detained on corruption charges but their two accomplices managed to flee, an official said on Wednesday.

An official of the department, wishing to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees included the the directors of planning and protection, a supervisor, two engineers and the education director of Wozi Zadran district.

“Two other officials involved in corruption have been fled and we have no clue to them,” the official said.

Naqib Ahmad Attal, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the arrest of six education officers.

A provincial council member Taj Mohammad Mangal said that only 500,000 Afghanis had been spent from the two million Afghanis allocated by the UNICEF for construction of schools’ bathrooms and other repair work.

He said the rest of the money went to the pocket of the detained education officers.

Mangal said only six officers involved in corruption were detained. The officers involved in serious corruptions should also be nabbed, he added.
