Oct 25, 2015 - 17:44

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The regional office of the Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of one pregnant woman and wounding of another.

Deputy police chief Col. Sakhi Dad Haidari, said the Talibaninfo-icon stormed the house of Muslima, 38, and sprayed her with bullets. Her 20-year-old daughter Maryam was injured when she tried to rescue her mother.

Maryam was taken to the provincial hospital where she and her baby are said to be in stable condition. But her mother’s baby was killed in the shooting, on which the insurgents are yet to comment.

Arif Naveed, AIHRC head in Badakhshan, denounced the killing and injuring of the womeninfo-icon as an action against basic human rights. He demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

Dawlat Mohammad Khawar, the town’s administrative chief, said Muslima’s husband was serving in Afghan Local Police (ALP). The Taliban had given him a warning to quit, but he did not.

Abdullah Naji, the provincial council chairman, urged the government to purge Warduj district of militants; otherwise such outrageous incidents would continue to happen in the future as well.

A month earlier, the rebels captured the district which is still under their control. Earlier, the insurgents hanged a 30-year-old woman in Tirgaran locality for having illicit relations with a man.
