ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Up to 220 uplift schemes were executed in the southwestern Nimroz province in the past one year but dozens have been halted by insecurity, officials said on Tuesday.

The projects includethe gravelling of a 20-km road, eight water wells, a 2-km protection wall, five school buildings, eight playgrounds and a community centre.

Director of Rural Rehabilitation and DevelopmentEng. Farid Ahmad Azami told Pajhwok Afghan Newsthe schemes accounted for more than 200 million afghanis.

The projects were executed in parts of the province, excluding restive Khashrod district, under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP), benefiting thousands of people.

Ghulam Sarwar, a tribal elder from Kang district, saidthe transportation problems had been resolved with the construction of a seven kilometres road in the area.

But another tribal elder, Abdul Haq, complained only a few projects had been implemented in Khashrod. He asked the government to pay more attention to the district’s development.

According to Azami, 37 projects costing 37 million afs remained incomplete due to insecurity in Khashrod district over the past one week.

Residents demanded a 20-bed clinic in the district centre instead of other projects in the district, said the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Hashim Noorzai. Remote parts of the direct are insecure.
