Families returning from Waziristan receive aid in Khost

Families returning from Waziristan receive aid in Khost

Jan 28, 2016 - 20:53

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan refugee families returning from Pakistaninfo-icon’s North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday received non-food items in aid from the International Organization of Migrationinfo-icon in southeastern Khost province, an official said.

IOM official in Khost Abdul Qayum Sharafat told Pajhwok Afghan News the aid was distributed to refugees who had been illegally living in North Waziristan and fled the region in the wake of a military operation there against Pakistani militants.

He said the aid included kitchen accessories, clothes and others and were distributed to 200 deserving families identified in a survey.

“Blankets, gas cylinders, dishes, water tanks, cups, glasses, different kinds of soaps and other needed items were given to these families,” Sharafat added.

One of the beneficiaries, Mazrak, said they faced economic hardships after arriving in Khost province but aid organizations helped them resolve some of their problems.

“We have migrated from Miranshah, we have received some aid and we hope the government or NGOs will help us solve our problems,” he said.

Mohammad Gul, another refugee who received the aid, said aid organizations should pay attention to them during winter season.

“We don’t have all needed equipment that can help protect us from cold, we have little children in our family, our house is not in good condition, so aid organizations may not forget about us,” he said.

The returnees from Waziristan have been several times distributed aid packages since March 2014.
