No positive response from Taliban to talks with Kabul: Aziz

No positive response from Taliban to talks with Kabul: Aziz

May 20, 2016 - 14:58

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Friday dispelled the impression among certain countries that the A0fghan Talibanwere being controlled by the government of Pakistaninfo-icon.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the fifth round of dialogue on Afghanistaninfo-icon in Islamabad, the top diplomat insisted the Quadrilateral Coordinating Group (QCG) was making sincere efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Although his country had done a lot, no positive response had been received yet from the Afghan Talibaninfo-icon to direct peace talks with the Ashraf Ghani administration, he said, stressing peace in the neighbouring country for regional connectivity.

While denouncing the recent terrorist attack in Afghanistan, the advisor called effective border management, saying the Afghan refugees would be voluntarily repatriated to their country.

Aziz warned anti-Pakistan statements from Afghanistan were having a negative impact on the peace process. Peace would continue to elude the war-weary nation in the absence of a meaningful reconciliation drive, he said.

He hailed the signing of a draft peace accord between Gulbadin Hekmatyar-led Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistan and the Ghani government. Other militant factions would also ink similar deals soon, he hoped.
