Enemy infiltrates govt at various levels: Kabul police chief

Aug 02, 2016 - 18:10

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Kabul police chief on Tuesday handed over 85 different confiscated weapons and four tonnes of explosives to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) programme officials.

Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters the weapons handed over to DIAG included AK-47 assault rifles, machineguns, pistols and RPGs, landmines, more than 1.7 tonnes of ammonium nitrate and two tonnes of explosives.

He said the weapons and explosives had been captured by police during the past four months in different parts of Kabul.

To a question how explosives-laden trucks entered the capital city, Rahimi said no one would guarantee preventing truck-bombings in future as well because the country was fighting a global war on terror and the enemies would use every tactics to reach their goals.

He claimed the enemies had infiltrated the government at various levels and they could assist enemy forces whenever needed.

He alleged mafia groups, powerful individuals and vehicles with black glasses were used in bomb blasts and other incidents of violence.

He said police were striving hard to maintain the law and order which was not possible without people’s cooperation.

At least 266 have been killed and 804 others wounded in 20 explosions and suicide attacks in capital Kabul in the past six months, according to a Pajhwok tally.
