8 Taliban killed in Kabul’s Qarabagh; cop killed in Farah

KABULinfo-icon/ FARAH (Pajhwok):  Eight Talibaninfo-icon militants and one policeman have been killed during separate incidents of violence in central Kabul and northern Farah provinces, officials said on Sunday.

The eight rebels were killed in a ground and air operation by security forces in Qarabagh district of Kabul province on Saturday night, the town’s administrative head, Abdul Sami Sharifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The operation was carried out in Sabzrang locality.

Adil Khan Akakhel, a Qarabagh resident and member of the Kabul provincial council (PC), also confirmed the incident and said another three insurgents were injured in the last night operation.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident.

Separately, a clash between security forces and Taliban fighters continued throughout Saturday in Farah Rud area of Bala Buluk district of northern Farah province.

The clash erupted early on Saturday morning and stretched into evening, the district chief Mullahinfo-icon Sayed Mohammad said.

He said one policeman was killed and another wounded and Taliban militants also suffered casualties, but he had no figures.

However, the Taliban claimed killing and wounding eight policemen and destroying a police pick up vehicle during the clash in Farah Rud. The rebels acknowledged losing one fighter to the battle.
