KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Three uplift schemes costing $60 million were put into service after their completion in central Logar province on Tuesday, officials said.

A gathering marking the launch of the projects was attended by Nasir Ahmad Durrani, Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Logar Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai and some other government officials here.

The projects included paved roads in villages around Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, and Khwakhi district and construction of bridges.

“The projects include construction of Matani Bridge in Pul-i-Alam, Mangokhel road and the road of refugees’ township in Khwakhi district,” the governor said.

He said the projects took one year to complete with financial support from the Worldinfo-icon Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Ministry of Finance. Fidai said the projects’ implementation provided transport facilities to thousands of people.

Meanwhile, Minister Durani said the projects were based on people’s demand and needs, adding as the projects were put into service for people, they should help the government protect them.

He said four other rehabilitation projects had also been launched in Pul-i-Alam and Mohammad Agha district at a total cost of 178 million afghanis. The projects included roads’ construction.

Durani promised construction of another 80 kilometres of rural roads at a cost of 700 million afs next year

A resident of Mangokhel, Ahmadullah said: “Our village’s road was unpaved and we faced problems, but now as it has been paved, we are so happy.”
