Over 800 families provided food items in Samangan

AIBAK (Pajhwok): The Worldinfo-icon Food Programme (WFP) has distributed 104 tonnes of food items to 816 families of martyrs and disabled people in northern Samangan province, an official said on Wednesday.

Keramuddin, head of the Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled department, told Pajhwok Afghan News 767 families of disabled individuals and 49 families of martyrs benefited from the programme.

Eighty one tones of flour, 13 tonnes of pea, nine tonnes of cooking oil, and one tonne of salt had been distributed among the deserving families in four days, he added.

Zafaruddin, 27, the resident of Kart-i-Sulah of Aibak, the provincial capital, expressed happiness over receiving aid in crucial time. Zafarrudin has been suffering from disability of his one leg.

He said he received 100 kilograms of flour, 16 kilograms of pea, 11 kilograms of cooking oil and an amount of salt that could accommodate his family for two months.

He asked the WFP to help poor people with firewood and other items of heating.

Earlier, the WFP provided food items to 293 displaced families in Samangan.
