Nangarhar police submit 180 weapons to DIAG

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday handed over 180 weapons they had seized during various operations to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) program officials.

The weapons were submitted to DIAG officials at a ceremony attended by Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal and provincial police officials.

The governor praised police for their efforts at collecting illegal weapons in order to ensure security of their countrymen.

He said except security personnel no one had the authority to carry weapons and those possessing guns illegally were considered criminals who had to face the law.

Governor Mangal asked security personnel to discharge duty in coordination and focus on what they learnt during training.

Nangarhar deputy police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Jalal Tatamdaraee said police had confiscated 180 weapons, including 23 Kalashnikovs and 152 pistols, and detained 21 people in connection with the weapons. The detainees had had been introduced to judicial organs.

During the outgoing solar yearinfo-icon, about 314 weapons had so far been formally handed over to DIAG program, he added.

DIAG in-charge in Nangarhar, Jawharshah Dawlatzai, asked officials to submit old weapons to DIAG if they had them in depots or home.
