Female militia leader fears militant resurgence in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A female militia commander on Wednesday alerted the government of militant resurgence in northern Baghlan province, saying a proper strategy was required to defeat the enemy.

Commander Kaftar, 65, who lives in Nahrin district, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview that she spearheaded a 20-member group of armed tribesmen who did not allow the aggressors to suppress their people.

“I took weapon due to the cruelty and persecution of the aggressors. I fought bravely against the enemy and defended my people and area,” she said.

But she was worried about the deteriorating security situation in Baghlan, saying militant groups were getting strengthened day by by. She asked the government to devise a proper plan to defeat the enemy.

She said the government should consult local elders and jihadi leaders on how to improve security situation and remove the hurdles.

Commenting on the International Womeninfo-icon’s Day, she said work had been done for women’s rights in the country during the past 15 years, but the women of Baghlan were still backward and needed support.

She said the government did not pay proper attention to women’s situation in Baghalan and urged equal distribution of resources in the country.
