KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Scanners to detect bombs such as vehicle-born explosive devices will be installed at the four major entrances to Kabul within next two months, an official said on Saturday.

The scanners were provided to Afghanistaninfo-icon by China in December 2016, when Beijing delivered its first military aid to Kabul in January that year.

The cargo contained among other things logistical equipment, parts of military vehicles, ammunition and weapons for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

Ministry of Interior’s deputy spokesman Najib Danish told Pajhowk Afghan News installation of the scanners would be completed within two months.

The devices would be installed on the eastern, western, southern and northern gates of Kabul, he said. He said the scanners could not be installed in winter because some persons had to be trained to manage the devices.

The scanners needed permanent electricity and security and work on that was ongoing, he added.

Danish said they faced land acquisition problem to build installations for the scanners at two gates. A legal debate was ongoing and the issue of land would be resolved soon, he said.

According to a Pajhwok tally, more than 300 people were killed and 700 others wounded in 54 different attacks in Kabul during the past eight months.
