Mar 30, 2017 - 13:13

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Fifteen Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and 13 others wounded during clashes with security forces in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Thursday.

Mohammad Hanif Rezaee, spokesman for the 203rd Thunder Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan news the clashes took place in the Safral area of Giro district and the Jamal neighbourhood of Andar  town.

He said seven insurgents were killed six others wounded in Giro while eight fighters were eliminated and seven others injured in Andar.

Provincial police spokesman Fahim Amarkhel confirmed Rezaee’s statement and said the Operation Shamshad was launched three day back.

Baz Mohammad, a resident of Giro, said clashes had been underway in the district for two days, with both sides using heavy and light weapons.

But, the Taliban rejected the claims. Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, said the fighters had not suffered any casualties in Giro.

He confirmed only one fighter and four security forces were killed and seven others wounded. Two vehicles were damaged as a result of the clash, he added.

Mujahid said the fighters stormed a facility of security personnel, damaging one water pump and two rooms.

According to security officials, 35 Taliban have been killed over the past three days in Muqur, Giro, Deh Yak and Andar districts.
