US presence not in Afghans’ interest: Uruzganis

Apr 21, 2017 - 18:29

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Residents of central Uruzgan province on Friday held a gathering to voice their support for recent anti-US remarks by former president Hamid Karzai.

After the US dropped its largest bomb on a cave network used by Daesh militants in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province more than a week ago, Karzai had called the strike violation of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s national sovereignty.

A large number of tribal elders and influential figures attended the Friday’s gathering in Tirinkot, the provincial capital.

The elders said the continued presence of the US on Afghanistan’s soil was not in the interest of the country and the Afghans.

They accused neighbouring countries particularly Pakistaninfo-icon of fueling the insurgency and violence in Afghanistan.

The participants said the US had not acted upon the security agreement it had signed with Afghanistan.

They the US had its own interest to pursue in Afghanistan and that the only way for the Afghans to bring peace to their country was unity and shunning differences.
