Project irrigating 5,000 hectare of land executed in Nimroz

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): An irrigation project watering 5,000 hectares of land in the Chahar Burjak district of southwestern Nimroz province has been completed, an official said on Wednesday.

Governor Mohammad Same told Pajhwok Afghan News the implementation of the project would help irrigate farmlands and pave the ground for promoting agricultureinfo-icon and enhancing growers’ incomes.

Eng. Mohammad Nabi Mahboob, head of Helmand river sub-basin in Zaranj, said the project would irrigate 5,000 hectares of land and benefit 5,000 families.

The project cost 285 million afghanis that paid by the Worldinfo-icon Bank, he said, adding the 29 kilometres canal was built by the Ministry of Water and Energy in four phases over the past two years.

Deputy Minister of Water and Energy Eng. Daud Safi asked residents of the area to take care of the project. A resident of the area of Khwabgah locality said implementation of the project was a long-awaited demand of the people.

He said most residents of the area were reliant on farming but hardly had any access to irrigation water. However, he hoped the project would help create work opportunities and improve people’s financial position.
