84 rebels killed as Uruzgan offensive continues

TRINIKOT (Pajhwok): More than 80 Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and 29 others wounded during five days of an ongoing clearing operation codenamed ‘Khalid’ in central Uruzgan province, officials said on Saturday.

Maj. Gen Abdul Qayum Baqi Zoe, 404th police zone commander, told a press conference here that many areas had been recaptured form the Taliban as a result of the operation.

Overall 84 insurgents and one security personnel were killed and 12 security men wounded in the offensive.

Uruzgan police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Farooq Sangari said Operation Khalid was ongoing successfully and the Taliban would not be able to gain control of any area in Uruzgan.

The Taliban have not commented about the operation as yet.
