Ghazni: Endangered animals being hunted into extinction

Ghazni: Endangered animals being hunted into extinction

May 03, 2017 - 00:59

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Hunting of endangered wild animals and birds has lately gained momentum in southern Ghazni province, the provincial environmentinfo-icon protection director said on Tuesday.

Shabir Ahmad Ahmadyar told Pajhwok Afghan News that poachers were merciless in hunting rarely found animals and birds in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, Nahoor, Ghaghatu, Qarah Bagh and Andar districts.

He blamed the hunting on people’s economic issues and warned if the illegal practice was not prevented, the endangered species could be poached into extinction.

The director asked security forces to give attention to the issue and punish those illegal hunting animals in accordance with the law.

Similarly, a member of the provincial council, Hamidullah Nawroz, confirmed the issue and said fishes faced the same fate in Ghazni.
