Soldiers seek help as Kunduz clashes go on

May 10, 2017 - 20:58

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Clashes between security forces and Talibaninfo-icon militants have been ongoing near the provincial capital of northern Kunduz province, soldiers on the frontline said on Wednesday.

The frontline soldiers and police claimed they were yet to get any assistance despite repeated requests and were not able to remove bodies of security personnel from the battlefield.

Some soldiers claimed they had been surrounded by militants amid food shortage but they were yet to get any help.

One soldier said senior officials had not yet visited them to see the situation. “We have not received any help so far, we are facing food shortage.”

Another solider claimed that bodies of security personnel had decomposed and they could not remove them until reinforcements arrived. He said their requests seeking ammunition and food were yet to be answered.

But Col.Rahim Kohdamani, public order police chief for Kunduz, however, said that the situation on the Kandahar-Takhar highway was improving and assured further improvement soon.

Clashes between Afghan forces and militants have been ongoing for the past several days, with the rebels taking control of Qala-i-Zaal district and the Kunduz-Khanabad highway.
