Women among 4 civilians killed in Kandahar bombing

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least four civilians including two womeninfo-icon were killed in a roadside bombing in the Khakrez district of southern Kandahar province on Monday, an official said.

Provincial police spokesman, Zia Durrani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place when a Corolla car struck a roadside bomb in Dara area in the morning.

He said the car occupants were heading from southern Helmand province to visit a shrine known as Shah Agha Ziarat in Dara area. Two women and as many men were killed and one woman injured in the ecplosion, he said, alleging the bomb had been planted recently by Talibaninfo-icon militants.

The Taliban usually plant bombs on roads to target Afghan security forces, but most of the victims were civilians, he said, adding police defused several roadside bombs in Kandahar on a daily basis.

The Taliban did not immediately comment on the incident. Landmines pose a major threat to the security forces and civilians, causing many casualties in Kandahar.
