Release of suspects unacceptable: Wolesi Jirga speaker

Release of suspects unacceptable: Wolesi Jirga speaker

Jul 17, 2017 - 14:52

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon speaker on Monday questioned the release of five suspected individuals who attempted to enter the parliament building, asking security organs to recapture the men for more investigations.

Mirdad Najrabi, head of the Wolesi Jirga internal security commission, had said A week back that a number of suspected men -- probably terrorists -- had been detained by security forces while trying to enter the parliament building.

Since their detention, Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar had repeatedly contacted security forces to release the suspects without ascertaining the motive behind their attempt to sneak into the parliament, he said.

He said the suspects wanted to enter the parliament on pretext of meeting MP Hazrat Ali, who said the men had nothing to do with him and should be kept in detention.

However, Muslimyar told the upper house’s session on Sunday the allegations leveled against him were baseless. He said the administrative board of the Wolesi Jirga should not allow MPs to speculate about their colleagues.

Speaking in the Wolesi Jirga today, Hazrat Ali said he had no personal enmity with the Meshrano Jirga chairman, but the release of the suspects should be investigated.

“It should be made public as to who guaranteed the release of these men, what was the motive behind their attempt to enter the parliament building and why they used my name,” he said.

Ali asked the administrative board of the lower house to thoroughly investigate the issue pertaining to the security of all parliament members.

Speaker Abdur Rauf Ibrahimi said: “The release of the suspects is unacceptable to us. The National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) should explain it to us why these men were freed.”

He asked the internal security commission of the Wolesi Jirga to summon the NDS chief to provide information about the case. “The suspects should be recaptured as soon as possible; they should be investigated,” he ruled.
