Jul 21, 2017 - 13:33

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Kunduz-Takhar highway has been closed in the Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province as clashes between security forces and Talibaninfo-icon insurgents continued in the district on Friday.

The Khanabad district administrative head, Hayatullah Amiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban on Friday morning stormed a number of security posts in the district and as a result the Kunduz-Takhar highway had been closed.

He said the clashes between the two sides continued as of Friday noon and security forces had retreated to Chahartoot area and the Taliban were trying to capture that area as well.

“We have contacted the security officials in Kunduz city for sending reinforcements,” the district chief.

A resident of the district, Haji Yousaf Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that it was 4am when the Taliban launched their attacks on security posts and captured some areas.

He said the district centre was on the verge of collapse and additional forces should be sent as soon as possible.
