Intelligence operative, civilian killed in Paktia blast

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Two intelligence personnel were killed and 20 others wounded as a result of magnetic bomb blast in southeastern Paktia province on Wednesday, officials said.

Deputy police chief, Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place at around 7:30am in Abdul Hamid Gardezi Square of Gardez, the provincial capital.

One National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) agent and a civilian were killed and two others wounded in the explosion, he said, giving no further details of the incident.

Meanwhile, a source in the Gardez Civil Hospital said on condition of anonymity the body of a security official and 20 injured individuals, including civilians had been evacuated to the facility.

An eyewitness, named Afzal, said one pick-up belonging to the security forces was also destroyed and many people suffered casualties. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
