Tonnes of ammonium nitrate seized in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Ammonium nitrate weighing 16,500 kilograms was seized and five persons detained in Kabul in connection with the banned fertilizer allegedly used by militants in making bombs, the spy-service claimed on Saturday.

A statement from the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) received by Pajhwok Afghan News said a trailer having Pakistani number plate (4544) had been loaded with the explosives across the Durand Lineinfo-icon and dispatched to Kabul.

The trailer was discovered and seized in the limits of 9th municipal district of Kabul city, the statement said, alleging the huge amount of the fertilizer had been skillfully concealed in the truck in Mardaninfo-icon area of Pakistaninfo-icon under ‘chicken food’ in the trailer and had reached Kabul city.

The statement said the ammonium nitrate, which is used in making IEDs, landmines and suicide vests for explosions and terrorist attacks, was bagged in 50-kg sacks.

Five suspects were also nabbed in connection with the smuggling by NDS personnel. It identified four of the detainees as Naseer Ahmad, Aziz Ahmad, Hazrat Umar and Umari.
