FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen police and one civilian were killed during a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants in Pusht Koh district of western Farah province on Wednesday, eyewitnesses said.

Hamayon, a resident of the district centre, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban militants stormed two police posts near their house on Tuesday night and the clash continued until 5am today morning.

He said 11 policemen were killed in the attack and another four were taken hostage by the Taliban. A civilian was also killed when a mortar hit a house during the clash in the area, he said.

The resident said three grocery shops were also torched after being hit by another mortar shell in the district center.

Hamayon continued it was not clear who were firing the mortar shells. Another resident of the area confirmed Hamayon’s account.

Pajhwok tried to contact Farah officials for comment, but failed. Governor’s spokesman, Nasar Mahri, said he had no information about the clash.

The Taliban claimed inflicting heavy casualties on Afghan forces and capturing a security post in Pusht Koh district.
