2 Panjwai health centers to get new buildings

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work on two buildings for healthcare centers was launched in Panjwai district of southern Kandahar on Thursday.

The buildings are being constructed in Talokan and Moshan areas of the district.

Governor Zalmai Wesa, acting provincial public healthinfo-icon director Dr. Mohammad Azim Zmaryal, Panjwai district chief Fazal Mohammad Ishaq and a number of local tribal elders attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the structures.

Dr. Zmaryal told Pajhwok Afghan News the two buildings would cost 22 million afghanis.

The building in Moshan area would cost 8.4 million afghanis and in Talokan area cost 4.8 million afghanis respectively, he added.

He said construction of the two buildings would take three months to complete and would have facilities like laboratories.

Around 120,000 families in Moshan and Talokan areas would benefit from healthcare services after the project was completed, Zmaryal said.

Another healthcare center would be opened in Hawz Madad area of Zheri district, he said.

Governor Wesa said health services were a primary need of people and the local government was trying to provide the service to all people in Kandahar.

He said many people would get benefited from the health service in Panjwai district.

Mohammad Naser, a resident of Moshan area, told Pajhwok that all residents of their area were happy over construction of the healthcare center because they would no longer need to travel to the capital for treatment.

But he asked the public health department and local government to hire professional male and female doctors in the health centers.

Local elders said besides health centers the government should also construct school buildings and roads in their areas.

Governor Weesa said they would try to construct school buildings and roads in Moshan and Talokan areas.

Panjwai is located 25 kilometers west of Kandahar city.
