Sep 30, 2017 - 13:41

TARINKOT (Pajhwok): Local officials of central Uruzgan on Saturday said Afghan forces were resisting a Talibaninfo-icon’s coordinated attack on the center of Chori district of the province.

A local security official who declined to be named told Pajhwok Afghan News a fierce clash was underway between the Afghan forces and the Taliban close to the police headquarters.

The Taliban planted bombs on all roads leading to the district center and people are barred from movement in the area, the official said.

Provincial council head, Amir Mohammad Barakzai confirmed the clash and said militants surrounded government buildings of the district.

Local people are stuck in their homes and the district is under serious threat of collapse if reinforcement not arrived immediately, he said.

District police chief, Asaadullah confirmed the clash, but said there was no fear of losing control of the district to militants as Afghan forces were strongly resisting.

He said 27 militants were so far killed and 14 others wounded. One police was killed and three others wounded during the battle, he added

Taliban did not comment yet on the incident.
