KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) head has said direct dialogue with the Talibaninfo-icon militants is the best way to put an end to the conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Karim Khalili expressed the view while addressing an academic workshop, organised jointly by the HPC and Berghof Foundation in Indonesia on Wednesday.

He called for strengthening relations between Afghanistan and Indonesia, praising the Berghof Foundation for improving the capacity of the HPC.

Fortunately, Khalili said, the Afghan peace process had once again been under discussion. He also welcomed the Indonesian president’s support for the reconciliation effort.

Support from different countries and organisations, including Germany and the Berghof Foundation, for peace in Afghanistan had helped accelerate the process, he added.

“Peace is very important in the current situation in Afghanistan. All Afghans are unanimous on the need for establishing peace,” the HPC chief said.

Dr. Mohammad Akram Khpalwak, HPC secretary and the president’s special representative on political affairs, and other members of the council also attended the event.

The HPC delegation also met the Indonesian president, vice-president and Ulemainfo-icon Council members during the trip.
