District chief killed in Nimroz roadside bombing

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The administrative chief for Khashrud district of southwestern Nimroz was killed in a landmine explosion on Saturday, an official said.

A security source in the province, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Khashrud district chief, Mohammad Hasham Noorzai, was on his way to the district center from the provincial capital, Zaranj, when his vehicle hit the hidden bomb.

Noorzai was killed and his vehicle destroyed in the blast about six kilometers from the district headquarters, the source said, adding the insurgents would ambush Noorzai had he survived the bombing.

There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
